I mention in another post that I had begun the process of making a new sourdough starter last Thursday. I started this from scratch using whole wheat and all purpose flour. I didn't get pictures from the beginning but I might do this again soon.
This was yesterday morning(3rd day) before the second feeding.
On Friday when feeding it I hated to throw away half of it so I started a second batch of starter that I was either going to use immediately when completed or give away to someone. The one on the left was left on the counter in the kitchen overnight and the one on the right was put outside on the patio tightly covered with plastic wrap. That one really took off with activity in a few hours. After spending three or four hours outside I brought it back inside.
At Yesterday's feeding I did throw away the excess as suggested(I don't have the room or use for the multiplying starter, Lol.......)but this time I put the outdoor starter into a bigger glass bowl because on Friday it had expanded so much it was touching the lid of that bowl. So, after the second feeding I covered it tightly with plastic wrap and put it out on the patio again. A little while later I went outside to cut the grass in the yard. I was using a corded blower to clean off the patio and the cord got stuck on something so I pulled it a little harder. The next thing I heard was glass crashing. Crap! I knocked the glass bowl down and destroyed it and the starter. So now I have one starter unless I split this one and continue on with one going outside.
This what the indoor version looked like early this morning.
I'll feed it for the 3rd time later this morning.
