Like I mentioned in another thread yesterday was a beautiful sunny yet breezy(which turned really windy)day here. I had planned to weed out and turn the soil in my garden containers and plant various vegetable plants. Well, as the day passed the wind got stronger and I decided not to plant and have them just get destroyed. The wind was really howling last night and I knew I made the right decision not to plant. Actually it got down to 40 degrees here this morning so I may just wait a few more days to plant when it warms the soil up a bit.
While out there I cleaned out the chicken pen and layed down fresh hay for the chicken and then threw most of the weeds I picked from the containers. The checkens loved that and went to town eating up the tender green weeds rather quickly. They love those weeds and fresh grass clippings. They were happy as can be after that. The old hay and manure went into a big can I use as a sort of composter and I use that in my garden as mulch and mixing into the soil. Oh, I did plant something yesterday, a variety of fingerling potatoes. The wicked wind couldn't hurt them. I can't wait to pull up those fresh little potatoes. I also transplanted chives and some green onions.
