I picked this up today. Best I can tell it a Diem Kamado made from the late 60’s to early 70’s. Got it for $100. Firebowl is flatter than bubba The guy said his mom and dad owned 2 of them. They gave him one that he broke many years ago. He kept the lid and base Bubba grate fits perfect I think it needs some kind of vent for the top. All it has is a cap. Should be fun to cook on.

Pretty cool! I would call it "Kermit the Kamado". What are the dimensions of it?
For the top vent, check a Big Green Egg dealer. I know theirs used to have a removeable cap like that and you should be able to get their adjustable vent cap. Primo might have something that would work as well. Maybe you can tap a hole in it and just put a nut and bolt through it with a lock washer . Primo concept like that keeps the cap from falling off when you open it.
There aree grates that'll fit from cast iron to stainless steel and you could even get a custom made laser cut grate. Options are almost endless believe it or not. Keep us updated. Cajunate

What a nice find Vindi. Looks like you will fun with it. Nate suggestions for a vent are good ones. If you do try to tap a hole use a diamond hole saw. Can not wait to see some of the results of cooking on it Vindi-JimZ

Caj - Its the same diameter as a keg. It sits low to the ground and is maybe 3 feet high. Seems like it would be better built into a table. Its kind of low right now. I'm thinking a BGE vent will fit the top. I'd like to see if I can find an original vent first though. I can't believe how good the paint is on it. For 45 years old it looks great. Needs a cleaning but otherwise really nice. From what I've read its a "Corning Ware" type of coating. Here's a pics from the 60's showing it new.

I got an email back from a guy that say he sold these. He said that there is a step inside the cap that you use to cock it for low temp cooking. Then you remove the cap for high temps. The rest is controlled with the lower vent. He also confirmed it should be fine in cold, rain, and snow. Here’s the step on the inside corner It just sits a bit crooked on here I started to look at the inside to start to clean it. After about 5 minutes with a wire brush it looked like this. The inside is coated with the same corning ware like finish as the outside. The lid after a little scrubbing Loaded some charcoal and fired it up This is as far as the lower vent opens without taking it off. Were people shorter in the 60’s? Got it running around 350. Outside gets hotter than the keg. Wife’s making cookies so I might throw a batch in there.

Nice Job cleaning that up. It is a little low to the ground, youll have to build a nice bench for it to raise it up. It sure does match the trim on your neighbors house nicely

Ran the kamado about 6 hours before it got low on lump. Made some taters while it was on.

I've been given a vintage a diem very much like yours but it is missing the adjustable vent cover for the bottom. Any ideas on where I can find a replacement?

Vindi, what a great post! You had me laughing at the three lined up, and "were people shorter in the 60s?" What a treasure! And that color is definitely "interesting." Almost glow-in-the-dark...have fun with it!

That's a great looking Kamado you have. I have been searching for that model for a while. If you ever decide to sell it let me know. Thanks
