This is something I've been meaning to do for a long time. I got this one maybe about eight or more years ago from a flea market seller. I can't imagine anyone or their dads not having had one of these types of grills many moons ago. This reminds me of a grill my dad had and used to barbecue on when I was a very young kid. It's an open pit style grill. I remember that many had a rolled edge of the top side of the grill but this one is a straight finished steel edge. Also if this was one of those cheaper ones back then I would have ground or sanded a hole right through it but not this one, it's made with real steel! I'm pretty sure it was enamel coated steel at one time but it had a good bit of rust. The underside with the legs removed. Almost there cleaning it up of rust. The topside looking pretty good now. No pictures of it after I got it sanded about as smooth as I could get it but it looked pretty good. I wiped it pretty clean with alcohol and applied a primer coat of flat black high heat paint and let that dry and cure before the final coat. I'm pleased with how it's coming along. I still need to sand clean up the legs and wheels but the grill grate might present a challenge. Pardon the water spots on it. It had some pollen on it so I hosed it off and it dried that way. It really came out nice. I wish I could find a 19.25" grate to replace the original with. Only other option is to clean it real well and season it a few times.
