This recipe is from the Depression, hence, I think, the powdered milk.
Oatmeal Bread
1 cup Quick oats 2. cups. Boiling water 1/2. cup. Honey 1/4. cup. Molasses 2. tsp. Salt 1. tbsp. Solid shortening 1. pkg. Yeast 1/2. cup. Lukewarm water 5-6. cups. Flour 6. tbsp. Powdered milk
Add boiling water to oats and mix.
Add honey, molasses, salt, shortening. When mixture is lukewarm, add yeast dissolved in lukewarm water.
Gradually add flour and powdered milk. Beat thoroughly.
Let rise until doubled. Punch down, divide into two loaves.
Turn into greased pans. Let rise until doubled.
Bake at 375 about 30-35 minutes.. Try to let cool before tasting. Have lots of softened butter ready!
